Symptoms of IgE allergy

Question:

A patient was eating shrimps for life time without any problem. Then he ate them one evening and after three hours he started to have a serious reaction and he went to hospital at that time for emergency. Later he tried it in soup but being scared he ate a little only. Then he found some mild redness in skin and he took antihistamine medication immediately. From which type of allergy was his reaction and could he benefit from ImuPro?

Answer:

I would suspect an IgE allergy, a so-called type I allergy. The patient’s reaction looks more like an anaphylactic shock. His problems probably started earlier than three hours, but he only realized the severity of it after three hours. Particularly if anti-histamines were effective, it is a histamine-related disorder and a type I allergy. ImuPro would certainly be helpful for him, to identify other inflammation generating foods that lower his tolerance to type I allergy. We could see in the past that if you avoid IgG positive food, type I allergy to other foods improves or disappears. So in conclusion, ImuPro will probably not point to shrimps as it is IgE mediated, but will to other foods that contribute to an excessive inflammatory process which impairs the immune system leading to IgE allergy. By avoiding the IgG food, the patient’s IgE mediated allergies will improve.
